Taylor Swift Backs Harris; Will Mahomes Declare Political Support?
September 12, 2024
Taylor Swift's recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has not only sparked conversations about the pop star's potential influence on the 2024 election but also ignited speculation about which celebrity would be next to give a political endorsement. Among those under scrutiny is Patrick Mahomes, whose wife was recently praised by former President Donald Trump.
This unexpected development occurred during an interview with Trump when he declared his admiration for Brittany Mahomes, stating that he preferred her over Taylor Swift due to her support for him. "I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She's a big Trump fan. I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great," said Trump on Fox News.
Following this revelation, many were curious as to whether Patrick Mahomes himself supported Trump or would endorse any candidate in the upcoming elections given his significant public reach as the Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback.
During a press conference held Wednesday, questions regarding his political stance and possible endorsements were raised; however, Mahomes decided to focus more on describing his family’s efforts towards community upliftment rather than addressing these queries directly.
"I think you see Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community too, aiming at helping people rise and providing them opportunities to express their voice," he stated.
Mahomes remained tight-lipped concerning any personal views towards Trump or comments made by him about Brittany while also confirming that he had no intention of endorsing any presidential candidate this fall—consistent with his past practice of refraining from making such endorsements publicly.
"I think I've always said I don't want my place and my platform used for endorsing candidates one way or another," explained Mahomes at the press conference. He emphasized instead that it was crucially important for individuals themselves to get registered to vote and conduct their own research into candidates and issues before making informed decisions based on what they believe is best for themselves and their families.
In addition, Mahomes pointed out that he typically does not judge people based on their political activities or affiliations. "Whenever I'm hanging out with whoever, I'm not thinking about their political views or anything like that; I'm thinking about the people and how they treat other people," he said.
This sentiment was echoed in a previous statement by Mahomes earlier this year when Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker faced backlash for delivering a politically and theologically conservative commencement speech.
"I've known Harrison for seven years. I judge him by the character that he shows every single day, and that's a good person who cares about the people around him, his family, and wants to make a positive impact on society,” stated Mahomes at the time.
As speculation continues over which celebrity will be next to throw their support behind a presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 elections, it appears we can count Patrick Mahomes out of this particular race—at least for now.
