China imposes visa restrictions on US citizens due to the situation with Tibet, and also called on the United States to stop interfering in the country’s internal affairs.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States impose visa restrictions against Chinese officials involved in restricting the entry of foreigners into the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. According to him, Beijing continues to systematically obstruct American diplomats and other officials, journalists and tourists from traveling to the Tibet Autonomous Region and other Tibetan regions, while PRC officials and other citizens have much greater access to the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in this regard that China is responding to US citizens, and also called on Washington to stop interfering in the internal affairs of the republic.
“We strongly oppose the US measures, and in response to the erroneous actions of the American side, China decided to impose visa restrictions on US citizens for an unacceptable attitude towards Tibet. We urge the United States to stop using the Tibet issue to intervene in domestic China’s affairs to prevent further damage to bilateral relations,”Zhao Lijian.
Recall, that U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law on Uyghur rights, which allows the U.S. administration to impose sanctions on Chinese officials.
