The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the world has exceeded 18 million, according to Johns Hopkins University, which summarizes data from federal and local authorities, as well as media and other open sources.
The total number of infected people reached 18,017,556. Over the entire period, 687,930 people died, and 10,649,108 recovered.
Most cases in the United States – 4.4 million. The United States is also leading in the number of deaths – 154 thousand deaths. They are followed by Brazil, Mexico, Great Britain, India, Italy, France and Spain.
An outbreak of unknown pneumonia began in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of December last year. As it turned out, a new type of coronavirus became the causative agent of the disease, later the disease was officially named COVID-19. On March 11, the World Health Organization announced a global pandemic.
