Jerome Adams, Surgeon General of the US made it extremely clear on Sunday that the coming week would be a major test of America’s resolve in its battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.
Next week is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment. It’s going to be our 9/11 moment. Its going to be the hardest moment for many Americans in their entire lives. And we really need to understand that if we want to flatten the curve and get through the other side, everyone needs to do their part.Jerome Adams, Surgeon General United States of America
Over 300,000,000 Americans are in lock-down
Across 41 states and the territories of Washington DC and Puerto Rico there has been blanket stay at home orders issued to help flatten the curve and curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Surgeon General advized citizens to wear a face mask or cloth face coverings in public
We always recommended if people had symptoms they wear a face mask. Here’s what’s changed: We now know that about 25% ― in some studies, even more ― of COVID-19 is transmitted when you are asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic. And so the CDC has now recommended that people wear cloth face coverings when they’re going to be out in public.Jerome Adams, Surgeon General United States of America
Surgeon General urges remaining governors to lock-down their states
Adams was urging governors in the 9 remaining states without any form of stay at home orders to follow President Trump’s and the CDC’s guidelines for COVID-19 for 30 days.
I wish every governor would encourage the people in their states to follow these guidelines for 30 days. But I want them to do what they can in their states… Governors are rightly protective of their ability to determine what’s best for their citizens. We want them to have the science to make the best recommendations.Jerome Adams, Surgeon General United States of America
