Trump Tweeting support of the people of Iran in Persian – Most liked Persian tweet in Twitter’s history

Updated January 13, 2020

US President Donald Trump in both English and Persian supported the protests in Iran. This has become the most liked Persian tweet in Twitter’s history. The protests began after the republic’s authorities accepted responsibility for the crash of a Ukrainian plane at Tehran Airport.

President Trump took to Twitter in Persian, posting an English translation of the message. “To the brave and suffering Iranian people: I have stood with you since the beginning of my presidency and my government will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely. Your courage is inspiring,”

President Trump’s tweet became the most liked Persian tweet in the history of Twitter.

After that, the American leader in another tweet turned to the Iranian authorities. He urged them to allow human rights defenders to monitor the situation.

“The world is watching”…

“The government of Iran must allow human rights groups to monitor and report facts from the ground on the ongoing protests by the Iranian people. There can not be another massacre of peaceful protesters, nor an internet shutdown. The world is watching,” Trump wrote.

Mass protests began in Iran on January 11, after the republic’s authorities admitted that they mistakenly shot down an Ukraine International Airlines plane, in which Iranians also flew. In Tehran, hundreds of students took to the streets in memory of the victims of the crash, and later it turned into a rally.

The Ukrainian liner, flying to Kiev, crashed after taking off from Tehran Airport on January 8. All on board 176 people died. The day after the accident, Iranian authorities reported that the crash was due to a fire in the engine, but later the prime ministers of Canada and the UK reported that there was information that the plane was hit by a rocket.
