Is history repeating? The media learns about 108 million people quarantined in China

Over 108 million Chinese are in isolation because of a new outbreak of coronavirus infection. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

The agency managed to find out that the Chinese authorities imposed strict quarantine measures in the north-east of the country. Jilin Province does not have bus and train connections, and schools are closed. Citizens are forced to isolate themselves.

“The strict measures have dismayed many residents who had thought the worst of the nation’s epidemic was over.”

According to Bloomberg, 34 new cases of coronavirus were counted in the province, and new restrictions indicate the fear of the PRC government about the possibility of a second wave of the epidemic.

“It’s also a sign of how fragile the re-opening process will be in China and elsewhere as even the slightest hint of a resurgence of infections could prompt a return to strict lockdown,”

In one of the cities of Jilin province, the authorities decided to close all residential complexes where new cases of coronavirus were recorded. So, only one family member can go shopping – for two hours every two days, the agency explained.

In addition, most delivery services are closed in the region, and anti-TB drugs are discontinued in pharmacies so that people cannot hide their symptoms and self-medicate.

Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (pathogen COVID-19) was first detected at the end of December last year in Wuhan, China. In early March, the World Health Organization declared its outbreak a pandemic. According to WHO, nearly 4.5 million people fell ill, more than 310 thousand died.

During the epidemic in China, 82,954 cases of coronavirus infection were reported. 78 227 people managed to recover, 4633 became victims.
