Financial News: Report for September 2nd 2020

Overview of today’s trading day:

Major stock indices mostly ended in the green, with all indices in the Americas and most in the Europe and APAC groups experiencing gains. As for commodities, Gold, Silver and Platinum are all down along with both Brent and Crude oil. Lastly, each of the three cryptocurrencies within tanked, resulting in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple all being in the red so far.

Americas

In the Americas group, four out of five indices ended in the green today. The Dow (+1.58%) led the gains with over a one and a half percent increase. Next, the S&P 500 (+1.54%) also gained over one and a half percent followed by the NASDAQ (+0.98%) at just under one percent. The worst performance from this group today, and the only index ending in the red from this group, was the Bovespa (-0.25%), which fell a quarter percent come market close.

Europe

In the Europe group, five out of five indices ended in the green today. Leading the gains was the DAX (+2.07%), with over a two percent increase. This was followed by the SMI (+1.92%) and CAC (+1.9%), both of which gained just under two percent. The weakest performance from this group today was seen by the FTSE (+1.35%), which still gained over one and a quarter percent.

APAC

In the APAC group, four out of six indices ended in the green today. The S&P/ASX (+1.84%) led the gains with over a one and three quarter percent gain. Next, the KOSPI (+0.63%) gained over half a percent followed by the Sensex (+0.48%) at just under half a percent. The worst performance from this group today was seen by the Hang Seng (-0.26%), which fell over a quarter percent come market close.

As for commodities, metals including Gold (-1.43%), Silver (-3.41%) and Platinum (-4.21%) are all in the red so far with Platinum down the most at over four percent. As for oil, Brent (-2.63%) and Crude (-2.76%) are both down over two and a half percent. Per barrel prices are at around $44.38 for Brent and $41.58 for Crude.

Cryptocurrency

On the crypto front, each of the three cryptos included within are in the red so far. Ethereum (-8.97%) is down the most so far at roughly nine percent, with the price of ETH tanking to around $433. Next, Ripple (-7.01%) also took a big hit with a drop of roughly seven percent, resulting in the price of XRP dropping to around $0.2747. Lastly, Bitcoin (-5.00%) is down five percent so far, with the price of BTC at around $11,318.
