On Wednesday, June 26th, Paraguay became the 100th country to join as a full member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA). During a meeting in India's capital city, New Delhi, the South American nation handed over its Instrument of Ratification.

The event marked an important milestone for both Paraguay and the ISA. During this meeting, Fleming Raul Duarte, Ambassador of Paraguay to India, met with Abhishek Singh, who is currently serving as Head of Depository and Joint Secretary (ED & MER) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India.

A spokesperson from MEA announced on social media: "Paraguay becomes the 100th country to join as a full member of the International Solar Alliance. Paraguay handed over the @isolaralliance Instrument of Ratification during today's meeting with Ambassador Fleming Raul Duarte and JS (ED & MER) Abhishek Singh."

India and France jointly launched the International Solar Alliance during COP21 in Paris. This alliance represents an action-oriented platform that aims for increased deployment of solar energy technologies within its member countries. It intends to ensure energy security while promoting the transition towards renewable sources.

According to an official press release from MEA, “The ISA aims to contribute significantly towards achieving goals set out by the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and massive deployment of solar energy.” In 2015, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conceptualized the idea for such an alliance on the sidelines of COP21.

At present, there are 119 signatory nations under the ISA Framework Agreement; however, only those who have submitted the necessary instrument of ratification can become full members. Paraguay's addition, bringing the total to 100, signifies a noteworthy advancement thus far; earlier, Spain became the ninety-ninth member last May.

This expansion indicates growing global interest in harnessing solar power as a viable and sustainable energy solution. ISA’s goal is to facilitate the large-scale expansion of solar energy in order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and make an impactful reduction in global carbon emissions.

Paraguay's membership comes at a crucial time when countries across the globe are increasingly recognizing the importance of renewable sources for securing their long-term energy needs while combating climate change. Paraguay itself has abundant sunshine throughout the year, making it an ideal candidate for harnessing this natural resource to meet its national environmental sustainability goals.

With 100 full members now, the International Solar Alliance continues to march forward with its mission of promoting clean, sustainable energy solutions worldwide. This recent addition further strengthens the alliance's potential impact as a major player in international efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change by promoting green technology adoption, particularly solar power generation capacities.
