The airport director of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport was among the key officials who attended a tree planting ceremony organized by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The event, which took place at Kolkata airport's operational complex on Friday, was inaugurated by Dum Dum MP Prof. Saugata Roy. Speaking during the occasion, Roy lauded this initiative as a testament to environmental conservation and sustainability.
This exercise is part of AAI's efforts to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It also highlights the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s commitment towards environmental sustainability. The goal is to plant 1,000 trees within and around NSCBI Airport premises.
The airport director reiterated his support for this green project, stating that it not only reflects their commitment towards sustainable practices but also their responsibility towards preserving our environment for future generations. He further said that such initiatives are crucial in instilling an understanding and appreciation for nature within society.
"We firmly believe in embracing environmentally friendly practices in all our operations," he remarked. "Through this tree plantation drive, we hope to inspire others within our sector and beyond."
According to a statement issued after the event, these newly planted trees will serve multiple purposes. They will significantly contribute towards enhancing local biodiversity while improving overall air quality due to their ability to absorb carbon dioxide emissions—a major greenhouse gas contributing to global warming—while releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.
Furthermore, they'll beautify surroundings, thereby creating aesthetically pleasing landscapes for both residents and visitors alike, thus making airports more welcoming spaces where people can connect with nature even if just momentarily before or after flights.
MP Prof. Saugata Roy expressed delight over being part of such an impactful initiative, saying, "As we mark ICAO's momentous 80th anniversary today, I feel proud participating in this tree-planting drive." He highlighted how each one of those thousand trees symbolizes a significant step towards environmental sustainability.
"By planting these trees, we are not just enriching our community's surroundings but making a tangible contribution to the global fight against climate change," he added. "This is an important message that we want to send out: every small action counts."
The tree plantation drive was well received by all attendees, who expressed hope that it will inspire more organizations and individuals across India and beyond to embrace similar environmentally friendly practices in their operations. They also hoped this initiative would serve as a reminder of humanity’s collective responsibility towards preserving the environment for future generations.
In conclusion, the tree-planting ceremony at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport signifies an important stride in AAI's commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainability. By spearheading such initiatives, they continue to set precedence for other entities both within the aviation sector and outside, proof positive of their unwavering dedication towards creating greener spaces around airports while promoting long-term ecological balance.
