September 7, 2024
This special issue serves as a continuation of our previous edition, "Wearable Devices and Sensors for Innovative Monitoring Systems in the 4.0 Era." The concept of Industry 4.0 has gained significant recognition worldwide; its principles and foundational elements have been adapted to various fields such as healthcare, public administration, and agriculture, among others.
As this paradigm shift continues to evolve across different sectors, it has birthed a new term, Era 4.0, which aptly depicts the pervasiveness of this digital transformation sweeping across industries.
The core pillars that uphold Era 4.0 include advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and, most importantly, data acquisition systems comprising sensors capable of gathering and processing information from both machinery operations and human interactions within these environments.
A pressing research challenge that persists is how to ensure seamless interaction between users/people with their sensory environment along with IoT infrastructure without compromising user comfort or disrupting their activities. In light of this requirement, wearable sensors coupled with monitoring systems are emerging as ideal solutions capable of facilitating smooth integration between reality and digital world interfaces.
With these thoughts guiding us forward into the future we live in today, we present this special issue encouraging contributions from researchers focused on innovative wearable devices and sensing solutions for monitoring systems designed specifically for the era 4.0.
The scope proposed under this Special Issue covers vast areas included in goals outlined by Sensors Journal:
We invite manuscripts online at www.mdpi.com after registering/logging in to our website. Once registered, click here to access the submission form where you can submit your work until the deadline date set earlier. All submissions would undergo pre-check before being peer-reviewed. Accepted articles will be published continuously listed together on Special Issue's site. Research articles review short communications welcome. For planned papers, title abstracts about words can be sent. Editorial Office announcement
Submitted manuscripts must not be previously published, nor should they be currently under consideration elsewhere (except conference proceedings). All submissions undergo a comprehensive single-blind peer-review process prior to acceptance. A guide for authors and other relevant information is available on the Instructions for Authors page.
Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access journal published semimonthly by MDPI. Visit the instructions for authors page before submitting your manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). All submissions should be well formatted and written in good English language quality; MDPI offers English editing services prior to or during author revisions if required.
We look forward to receiving insightful research contributions that would further expand our understanding of the profound impact wearable devices and sensors are making in this new era we find ourselves in—Era 4.0.
