This esteemed institution is known for its relentless pursuit of innovation. In recent years, it has made significant strides to improve prognosis and enhance quality-of-life outcomes for children requiring surgical interventions. The history of this specialty within the university is marked by continuous evolution, from perfecting minimally invasive procedures to integrating advanced imaging technologies and robotic assistance into their practice.
We are privileged to serve as guest editors for an upcoming special issue titled "Developing Pediatric Surgery: Innovation and Challenges." This issue aims to shed light on breakthroughs that are transforming pediatric surgical care—not just within our unit but globally.
Our goal with this special edition is twofold: we aim to highlight new surgical techniques that have proven effective in managing childhood illnesses while also discussing improvements in perioperative care that can lead to better long-term outcomes for young patients. Furthermore, we hope that sharing these advancements through scholarly publications like ours will foster collaboration among researchers worldwide, thereby inspiring further innovations that could potentially revolutionize child health.
In line with our commitment towards innovative research, we invite contributions from all scholars who produce original articles about pediatric surgery pathology (prospective or retrospective studies), experimental studies, or systemic reviews/meta-analyses on new diagnostic/surgical techniques contributing positively towards child health.
With an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI at our disposal, authors can submit manuscripts online after registering on www.mdpi.com until the deadline date specified. All submissions will be meticulously reviewed through a single-blind peer-review process before publication.
To ensure consistency across all papers submitted under this special issue's umbrella theme, "Developing Pediatric Surgery: Innovation and Challenges," we request all authors to adhere to the guidelines provided on our Instructions for Authors page.
Our aim is not just to publish a collection of papers but also to create an intellectual discourse that triggers thought-provoking ideas, encourages further research, and ultimately improves surgical care for children around the world. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs).
In conclusion, at the Pediatric Surgery Unit of the Maternity and Children Department at the University of Pisa, Italy, our commitment towards advancing pediatric surgery remains unwavering. By sharing new techniques and findings through scholarly publications like ours, we hope to inspire other researchers globally, thereby creating a ripple effect that will transform child healthcare worldwide.
