The Glastonbury Festival was filled with raw emotion as fans were left in tears when Michael J. Fox made a surprise appearance on stage with Coldplay. The Back to the Future actor, who is battling Parkinson's disease, joined the band from his wheelchair and played the guitar alongside frontman Chris Martin.

This was a monumental moment for both the band and their followers, as Coldplay made history by becoming the first group to headline Glastonbury five times. But what truly touched hearts was when Martin credited Fox for being the'main reason' behind Coldplay's existence.

Michael joined them in renditions of their hits, Fix You and Humanity. After these performances, an emotional Chris told the crowd, 'The main reason why we're in a band is because of watching Back to the Future.' He then thanked one of his biggest inspirations, Michael J. Fox, calling him 'our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth.'

Chris had previously spoken about how seeing Michael play Johnny B. Goode on guitar in an iconic scene from 1985's Back to the Future sparked his desire to become a musician himself during an interview with Kelly Clarkson on her chat show earlier this year.

Fox has appeared with Coldplay before during their 2016 concert in New York, where he performed songs from Back to the Future at request from Chris' then-ten-year-old son Moses, who asked if they could play a song from one of their favorite movies.

During this recent Glastonbury performance, cameras panned across teary-eyed festivalgoers before revealing Hollywood star Michael J. Fox amongst them. It must have been quite surreal for everyone present to witness someone who inspired so many not just through his acting but also through his fight against Parkinson’s disease, which he has been battling since being diagnosed at age 30 back in 1991.

In light of his diagnosis, Fox created the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000 along with his wife of three decades, Tracy Pollan. The foundation has since raised over $2 billion for Parkinson's research.

Coldplay fans were left deeply moved by Fox's surprise appearance and took to social media platforms to express their emotions. Comments ranged from admiration for Chris Martin bringing Michael J. Fox on stage, declarations of love for Coldplay, appreciation of the band’s performance at Glastonbury, and heartfelt messages directed towards Michael J. Fox himself.

The show was watched by a massive crowd, including Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Gillian Anderson, among others.

Michael J. Fox is not just an icon because of his role in Back to the Future but also due to his tireless efforts towards raising awareness about Parkinson's disease through advocacy and funding vital research via his foundation. Despite being diagnosed at a young age with this incurable condition that primarily affects older people, he has continued to inspire millions around the world, both on and off-screen.

This unforgettable moment at Glastonbury Festival served as a poignant reminder that, despite life’s challenges, courage, resilience, and hope can create beautiful moments worth cherishing forever.
