Western Copper and Gold Reveals Metallurgical Program, Drill Results

Vancouver, BC, March 27, 2024 (CNW): Western Copper and Gold Corporation ("Western" or the "Company") (TSX: WRN) (NYSE American: WRN) announced today that it has launched a metallurgical testing program for its wholly-owned Casino Copper-Gold Project ("Casino"). The program is based on fifteen composite samples prepared from core acquired during the Drill Program in 2023. The company's Technical and Sustainability Committee, which includes members from Western, Rio Tinto Canada Inc., and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, designed both the Drill and Metallurgical Programs. 
 
The Drill Program of 2023 consisted of seven holes spanning a total length of 2,244 meters, with individual lengths ranging from 130 to 556 meters. These drill holes were strategically located within current pit boundaries to provide diverse grades, host rock types, and mineralogy for subsequent metallurgical testing. Additionally, selection aimed at converting indicated resources into measured ones. 
 
Drill results reaffirmed the importance of the core zone as they encountered relatively higher grades such as DDH23-05, which intersected supergene mineralization over a span of 158.5 m, with CuEq1 standing at 0.82%. 
 
The newly initiated metallurgical program will subject these fifteen composite samples representing different degrees of supergene and hypogene mineralization to comminution and flotation tests in order to produce a definitive concentrate from each sample. This will help develop an advanced geometallurgical model for the deposit. Specialists at ALS Metallurgy, based in Kamloops, oversee this test program under supervision by personnel from Western along with Rio Tinto Canada Inc. and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation. 
 
Bill Williams, CPG acting interim chairperson at Western, verified the geological data contained herein according to Canadian regulatory requirements set out by National Instrument Standards NI43-101 of Disclosures for Minerals Projects laid down by Canadian Securities Administrators. 
 
Western also disclosed QA/QC protocols for DDH22-01, which include assurance of chain of custody. Core samples are evenly divided by a rock saw, prepared, and analyzed by ALS Geochemistry using a four-acid digestion process followed by conventional multi-element ICP-AES analysis.
