Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren recently confirmed that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is set to commence soon, a development expected to bring prosperity to both Pakistan and the wider region. He made this announcement during his address at a national conference titled '73 years of Pak-China Diplomatic Relations: Achievements and Way Forward'. The event was jointly organized by the Centre for South Asia & International Studies (CSAIS) and Punjab University School of Communication Studies at Hameed Nizami Hall.

The Consul General also announced Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's upcoming visit to China in early June, with key areas like mining, IT, and energy earmarked for cooperation between both nations. Commending Pakistan as being the first Muslim country to recognize China's independence back in 1951, Zhao underscored an enduring trust built over seven decades. He further pledged ongoing collaboration between Lahore’s Chinese consulate general and Punjab’s government aimed at enhancing education-related ties along with economic and cultural exchanges.

Friendship with China has consistently been central to Pakistan's foreign policy since their bilateral diplomatic relations began 73 years ago. Over time, these have evolved into an "All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership," effectively balancing regional as well as international politics. This bond reflects shared socio-economic goals alongside geopolitical strategies including peaceful coexistence, multiculturalism, international cooperation plus economic globalization.

This partnership spans various sectors such as investment ventures; infrastructure development; energy cooperation; agriculture collaboration; defense initiatives; political connectivity; people-to-people interaction among others since 1951.

Historically speaking, inhabitants from both countries have interacted through ancient Silk Route journeys or via Gandhara civilization representations carrying human values such as ethnic diversity, mutual respect plus knowledge exchange amongst other traits.

Recent meetings between Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar who doubles up as Deputy PM visiting his counterparts in China saw commitments being reiterated towards expediting progress on all CPEC projects. These include the ML-I up-gradation, Gwadar Port expansion plus Karakoram Highway realignment.

The construction of significant infrastructure like the Karakoram highway and joint defense ventures including Heavy Mechanical Complexes have been hallmarks of this partnership. Acquisition of advanced war machinery such as J-10C fighter jets and JF-Thunder Bloc III are further testaments to the strategic cooperation between both nations.

China's investment in Pakistan's tech sector has seen collaborations with local entities across telecommunications, digital services, e-commerce which brings cutting-edge technology fostering an innovative environment conducive to technological advancement.

In education, Chinese institutions work alongside Pakistani universities enhancing educational standards plus research capabilities through scholarship programs or collaborative research initiatives.

Agriculture is another area where China’s expertise has proven beneficial for Pakistan from modern farming techniques to pest control measures aimed at improving crop yields thereby ensuring food security.

Looking ahead there exist vast opportunities awaiting exploration across diverse fields namely economy; investment; joint ventures; special economic free zones; oil & gas energy cooperation among others which will continue bolstering Pak-China relations over time.

To conclude, President Xi Jinping’s global development initiatives should guide our way forward while nurturing the Global South shared prosperity doctrine. A green corridor focusing on hydrogen power generation solar panels EVs etc., should be jointly implemented under CPEC Phase-II flagship project banner marking an enduring friendship between both countries promising a prosperous future together.
